Surveying success!

We kicked off our summer-long native species surveying in style as DZC came top for the number of observations out of all participating BIAZA collections during the recent City Nature Challenge!

During the four-day campaign, our team’s surveying also helped the Birmingham and Black Country area come first in the UK, with wildlife observations including mallards, moorhens, woodlouse, squirrels, millepedes, foxes and plenty of robins!

While one of eagle-eyed keeper even spotted a wild Tawny owl in a tree off the snail trail pathway!

We’ll be continuing with various dedicated native species surveys throughout the year and you too can take part and help us record the site’s flora and fauna by taking and uploading photographs of any native species you spot on your visits through the iNaturalist app on your phones.

This collected data will help not only us, as we look to develop our native species biodiversity action plan, but also local native species experts in conserving the species who live in and around our neighbourhoods.
